John A. Blackhurst

Born and raised in MN. Grew up in aviation as my father was a pilot/IA. Traded labor at the airport to earn my pilot certificate at a young age. Soloed on my sixteenth birthday. Graduated from Monticello, MN high school and entered the Air Force in 1971. Served in Idaho until 1975, leaving with lots of great Det 22 memories.

I returned to MN and got my Airframe and Power plant license and worked in aviation until 1980 when I started my own business, Blackhurst Aviation, Inc. Started out doing annuals, 100 hour inspections and all phases of aircraft maintenance & painting. I employed my father to do engine work, my friend Bill, and my wife Pat. I obtained my Inspection Authorization Certificate and things were looking good.
