MASTER SERGEANT CHARLES D. MORROW
Master Sergeant, retired, Charles “Chuck” D. Morrow was born in Memphis, Tennessee on September 3rd, 1942. Sergeant Morrow entered the Air Force on March 16, 1966 and volunteered for Pararescue (PJ) duty. After completing basic training, he completed the PJ training pipeline and reported to Eglin AFB for HH-53 aircrew and pararescue transition training. Sergeant Morrow graduated from the Pararescue School in 1967 and was stationed at Udorn, Royal Thai AFB for a one year combat assignment. After completing this assignment, he was sent to Pease AFB, New Hampshire. During this posting, Sergeant Morrow served as a crewmember and jumpmaster on HC-130 aircraft and qualified on the spectacular Fulton Surface to Air Recovery System. Despite these achievements, Sergeant Morrow decided that peacetime missions were too tame and begged for an immediate combat assignment back to Southeast Asia. His plea was granted and he was sent to Nakon Phanom (NKP) Royal Thai AFB in June 1969 and served for 38 months.
During his 50 months spent in the Southeast Asian theater, Sergeant Morrow amassed 1000 combat flight hours and featured in numerous high profile combat search and rescue missions, earning three Silver Stars, five Distinguished Flying Crosses and 23 Air medals. In August 1972 he reluctantly left the combat theater of operations and for more than a decade, served honorably in various world-wide assignments. One of the most decorated heroes in the Vietnam War, Sergeant Morrow retired from the Air Force at Homestead AFB, FL in 1987. He currently resides in Memphis, Tennessee and has a son and daughter who live in the local area.
